In 'Main Menu' widget options, enter a submenu name for the main menu item to which you want to link the submenu. It could be anything like 'sub1' for instance. Just be sure there's no space in the submenu name.

Now, open 'Submenu' widget options and enter that name in the 'Submenu Link Name' field, select the number of items and apply links.
